Algoma Steel Group Inc., an Ontario-based producer of hot- and cold-rolled steel sheet and plate products, has appointed Michael Garcia as CEO effective June 1, 2022, upon the retirement of current CEO Michael McQuade. McQuade will continue to serve on the company’s board of directors, and Garcia will join the board concurrent with his appointment as CEO.

Garcia’s career includes senior executive roles at Alcoa Inc., Gerdau Ameristeel Inc., Evraz Inc./Evraz Highveld Steel & Vanadium Co., Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Domtar Inc., and Alliant Energy Inc. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the U.S. Military Academy and an MBA from Harvard University.
